An old message but just in case still of interest
Nicholas caruana is my great grandfather, maternal line. He had 9 children with his wife Plocheria Damiano. Only my Grandfather Johannes (Giovanni) Caruana survived.
I am told;
Spirodon married Teresa Ellul in 1864 ~ the limit of my information.
Nicholas was born 1867. lived in Ottoman Turkey/possibly not Constantinople. Married Plocheria (from Naples). He had a garment factory/business.
Plocheria was killed around the same time as 8 of their 9 children (1922/3?). Nicholas remarried Florentina Pignol 6/6/25, who returned to France upon Nicholas death 26/11/1926.
Johannes/Giovanni their one surviving child was reportedly fostered and grew up with the family of Felix Caruana (yes same surname in, Constantinople) who was skilled laying mosaics (i met him in 1981). somehow the British Embassy was involved as he was educated to speak English & French. Possibly as they were British citizens. Giovanni left for Paris then London in the 1930s.
