Dear Julius,
happy to meet you in 'Malte-Genealogie'. I'm not far from your age
because I will begin in a few weeks the same decade you are ending.
One of my maternal great-grandmothers was of Maltese origin and her
name was Canzuch coming from the forms Canzuhuk and Canzuhuc attested
in the 'Militia list' of
1419-1420. Easy to think for the surname 'khan' and 'suq' as roots.
Anyway the last Mameluke sultan of Egypt was a Qansu al-Ghawri that
sounds like and I found also different and more close
transliterations. Do you have any idea or clue about? Thanks and ciao
from Rome!
Guido B.
P.S. - My memory also is not good because from over 30 year I use -
with computers - the electronic prostheses of it...
