Hello
I am trying to find out more about the Fauzza family in Malta. My great grandmother was Maria Giuseppa Fauzza, who married aged 32 years, Valletta 1901. I have her marriage certificate. Her father was Salvatore Fauzza and he married Raimunda Gauchi in 1851 Valletta,
Salvatores father was Geronimo Fauzza and mother Caterina Guerini.
My question is: I cannot find much information about the Fauzza family. On Salvatores marriage notes it says ‘’de Marsala’ .
I believe I found a Salvatore fauzza in 1888 Alexandria as a jeweller, British citizen, Maltese and been in Egypt before 1882.
Does anyone have info on how to find more out about Fauzzas in Malta or Egypt?
Fauzza Malta and Egypt. my great grandmother was married in valletta 1901 aged 32. Maria Giuseppa Fauzza, father Salvatore Fauzza, mother Raimunda Cauchi, Salvatores father Geronimo Fauzza married to Caterina Guerini. My question is, where are they from?
Salvatore Fauzza
Hello,
FAUZZA is clearly not a Maltese surname.
From what I understand, the first FAUZZA in Malta were Salvatore and Paolo, sons of Geronimo FAUZZA and Caterina GUERINI.
Given their names, Geronimo and Caterina are not Maltese, and there is no record of their marriage in Malta. I therefore believe that Salvatore and Paolo were not born in Malta.
Salvatore's marriage record states that he was from Marsala, meaning he came from Sicily.
You also found a Salvatore FAUZZA, a Maltese-English citizen, in Egypt. Since there was clearly only one Maltese Salvatore FAUZZA at that time, it is most likely him.
So, we have Sicilians who moved to Malta and then left for Egypt (like many Maltese at the time, as the British needed labor during their occupation of Egypt). He may have returned to Malta or spent the rest of his life in Egypt.
I believe the research should focus on Marsala ( https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/search-r...Marsala%22).
Since the marriages took place in 1851 and 1856, we can estimate that the parents' marriage occurred between 1825 and 1830 (if not found, the time frame should be extended). You can also search for births between 1825 and 1835, again in Marsala.
Happy researching!

Salvatore Fauzza Hello, Thank you for this really excellent response. I have been informed by another descendant who has found Salvatores sister Angela birth certificate in Marsala Sicily in 1831. Her parents are Girolamo FAVUZZA and Caterina Canino, which show a different surname. \interestingly there are no other Fauzzas or Favuzzas in the records in Marsala. I will keep on looking as there is so many avenues to search. Thank you so much for the response, regards, ben, living in Cambridge, UPDATE I have found in 1826 a Salvatore FAVAZZA 27th March 1826 Marsala

Hello,
Great news.
I forgot to say that on some sicilian registers there is a part for foreign marriages of person who was born in the sicilian town.
So, maybe the marriage in 1851 appears also in Marsala register.
Perfect found. FAVAZZA is more logic than FAVUZZA. V and U are the same in italian, so it will have no sense.

Thank you, This is very helpful, I am looking where to get the marriage certificate from of Salvatore Fauzza, as he married Raimunda Gauchi 09.09.1859. Salvatores wife has a Maltese surname, Gauchi. Do I go to the church, St Pauls Valletta, as the record office does not do prior to 1863. regards, Ben
